It's Time to Speak Up
Subj: Sept. 11th terrorist attack Date: 11/14/01 2:24:55 PM Eastern Standard Tim Dear Sir: I am sending this message to all my representatives: Basically, I am concerned about the nullifying of the Bill of Rights by anti-terrorism legislation either passed or pending or in executive orders by the President. Specifically, the most important is the definition of terrorist. Can it be broadened to include someone who investigates corruption, or opposes an administration's policies, or speaks out on a subject, or would be considered "threatening" by someone in high position, but who, in fact, is not violent but seeking the truth, or in opposition to a policy or policies? My concern is the abuse of this, and the possibility (and we have seen this in every administration - I personally saw it in the Reagan, Bush and Clinton administrations) that citizens will be tagged with this label who are not violent, or trying to inflict harm on others, but who might be opposed to current policies, or officials, for one reason or another. The legislation passed or pending would enable break-ins into people's homes, tampering with their computers, confiscation of their property, trial by military court with no recourse to evidence or a jury, decisions made on them by secret courts or judges, abrogation of lawyer/client privileges in prisons etc. It could sweep into its scope millions of Americans, or anyone targeted by a government official or officials for whatever reason. I am also concerned with any type of mandatory vaccination policy, mandatory forced health policies, etc. because these, too, can be abused, and also because many people in this country use alternative medicine, or object to certain standard medical policies. We have seen this in the big debate and controversy over mandatory anthrax vaccines in the military, when many soldiers were demoted or left the service because of this threat. There is good argument that some mandatory medical practices are more harmful than the things being opposed.... Along with this is coming the specter of forced DNA gathering, fingerprinting, facial or iris scanning, etc. All more intrusive methods of control to be exercised over the human person.....and perhaps culminating in forced microchipping to control and track the public. These things can only be seen as police state control mechanisms, not really the answer to protecting against terrorism, and, in fact, adding government terrorism (our own) to any outside terrorism. And many are concerned about this now. I am asking my representatives to oppose anything that has, or will, abrogate the Bill of Rights and the freedoms we have fought for and enjoy, and am hoping they can see that anything legalized that throws out our basic protections - which is the Constitution - is, in fact, illegal and worse than illegal. Freedom comes from God, but as practiced by the state, has to remain enshrined in doctrines like our Bill of Rights, which, under NO conditions, should be thrown out the window, by one person, or small groups of persons. The public is sitting by in dismay while, not only are terrible things happening, but even more terrible reactions are coming from a few high placed people. I refer to executive orders (undemocratic and unconstitutional), and legislation subverting the Constitution which is being imposed on us at breakneck speed. I know many feel this way, and they are people who are concerned and caring, not irresponsible people....irresponsible people disregard all laws, or don't bother to protest injustice. Thank you for your consideration.
